Strategic Plan 2025-2028
Expand and Strengthen Access to Food and Resources
Expand food assistance and make it more equitable, accessible, and aligned with community needs. Work with partners to improve the food assistance experience and to address food preferences and needs.
- Expand food assistance and access to resources in partnership with members (i.e., food pantries, meal sites, shelters), other community partners, and the Food Bank’s direct food distribution programs. Allocate food and resources more equitably to align to community needs and geographic gaps in food assistance sites.
- Continue to support members’ efforts to make food assistance a more welcoming, dignified, and convenient experience.
- Evolve and strengthen our engagement with individuals living with food insecurity and intentionally incorporate their perspectives into the Food Bank’s decision-making.
Strengthen Food Supply and Distribution Excellence
Grow and diversify the supply of donated, purchased, and regionally-grown food to meet current needs given our financial resources and capacity.
- Continue to expand and diversify food sourcing to provide larger quantities of nutritious food.
- Pursue food sourcing and distribution of more food that meets people’s cultural preferences and dietary needs, within the resources and capabilities of the Food Bank and its members.
- Strengthen logistics and delivery support for members and the broader food assistance network in Western Massachusetts.
- Evolve the Food Bank’s farming activities to prioritize the most productive, efficient, and mission-connected initiatives that provide cost-effective fresh produce.
Mobilize Support and Advocate for Change
Mobilize public and private support to advocate for solutions that advance food security.
- Continue to diversify funding sources and strengthen fundraising and engagement with current and potential donors.
- Continue to advocate for increased state funding to offset recent declines in federal food assistance funding and expected increases in demand for food assistance.
- Advocate, in partnership with regional, state, and national allies, for government policies that achieve food security for everyone and reduce long-term reliance on food assistance.
- Strengthen Board members’ commitment to serve as ambassadors for the Food Bank, supporting fundraising, advocacy and awareness efforts.
- Raise public awareness of the Food Bank’s mission and food insecurity, and be a leading voice to advance food security.
Advance Our Organization and Operations
Continue to build the organizational culture and operations that will best fulfill our mission.
- Align staffing and work plans to organizational priorities, financial resources, and achievable timelines.
- Continue to strengthen operating processes and technology to increase efficiency and improve customer service.
- Advance workplace improvements that help attract, retain, and empower staff, including training and professional development, compensation and benefits, and HR processes.
- Strengthen cross-functional communication and collaboration among staff and within the leadership team.
- Continue to incorporate diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts into our work plans, workplace, and our relationships.
- Increase Board knowledge of and engagement in the operations of our region’s food assistance network.
