Together, We Change the Narrative.

Get Informed

Food insecurity and hunger are complex issues that impact every town in every county in Western Massachusetts. Unfortunately, stereotypes and myths have misled public perception about why people experience food insecurity and hunger.

We believe that honest discussions about hunger and its drivers, centering the perspectives of those who have lived experience, are critical to reducing stigma and creating sustainable solutions.

Understand the Issue

Help us Drive Change

Ending hunger will take all of us- but some people don’t know just how prevalent it is in Western Massachusetts. Share your passion for this issue with your friends, family, and coworkers. Telling the people in your circle, whether in person or through social media, about the ways you are getting involved and staying informed is a great way to encourage them to do the same.

The Facts on
Hunger in our Region

High costs of living, gaps in our public transportation network, and a lack of accessible, nutritious food options are just some of the barriers impacting people across the region. Here is data you can share about just how prevalent the issue is.

123,786

People in WMA utilize food assistance

through our distribution programs and our member pantries and meal sites.

36,852

Children are food insecure in our region

and are one of the populations whose health is most deeply impacted by hunger.

194,000

Use SNAP to help pay for groceries,

a program facing steep cuts in October of 2026 that will cause greater reliance on our network.

Volunteer Highlight: Cultivating for Community

Cultivating for Community is the Food Bank Farm’s regenerative farming and education initiative. The farmland is a part of our Second Food Bank Farm in Hadley, Massachusetts.

From regular volunteering hours to special events, CFC has opportunities for individuals and groups to learn new skills and participate in growing food that goes directly to local pantries.
