On Tuesday, November 6, Stop & Shop’s Turkey Express delivered 900 Stop & Shop gift cards worth a total of $10,800 to The Food Bank’s warehouse facilities in Hatfield. This generous donation is just one of the ways the retailer plans to give back and fight hunger in Massachusetts and throughout New England this holiday season.

The Food Bank will distribute the gift cards among our partner agencies (including food pantries, meal sites and shelters), and they will be handed out to food-insecure neighbors throughout Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties this month.

Currently, more than 223,000 people in western Massachusetts are impacted by food insecurity. Nearly 33% of those people are children under the age of 18, and approximately 15% are seniors over the age of 65. In the 12-month period from Oct. 1, 2017 – Sept. 30, 2018, The Food Bank distributed 11.6 million pounds of food — the equivalent of approximately 9,676,000 meals.
