30Boltwood’s Competing Bartender: Victoria Torti
Victoria Torti has acquired her considerable expertise with the classic combination of devoted apprenticeship and natural talent. She spent her youth watching the bartenders at her mother’s country club restaurant in Southbridge, Mass., and knew how to make a classic cocktail before she was old enough to serve. As soon as she turned eighteen, Victoria began her life’s work amid the exhilaration of a thriving bar. Victoria has worked her way through the world of country clubs, into hotels, and finally landed at The Lord Jeffery Inn as a key player in our 2012 reopening.
Victoria loves being a part of 30Boltwood and devours every opportunity for a new challenge. She thrives off the fast pace and the unrestrained creativity 30Boltwood allows, fondly remembering drinks from 30Boltwood’s past, such as the Adriana and the Man from Nantucket. Not simply a “mixologist,” Victoria may begin crafting her drinks with research and experimentation, but she follows them all the way to the table. Each drink that comes off her bar is presented with elegance and professionalism, harmonious with the rest of 30Boltwood’s farm-to-table cuisine and warm atmosphere. Since 2012, Victoria’s work has won best in show at the Amherst Chamber of Commerce Margarita Madness in 2012, a Howdy Award in 2014 from the Springfield Convention and Visitor Bureau, and was awarded the Service Industry Award from the Hampshire County Statehouse in 2015. On-property, she has achieved Lord Jeffery Inn’s Employee of the Year in 2013 and Waterford Hotel Group’s Employee of the Company in 2014.

Homestead’s Competing Bartender: Cody Austin
A western MA local raised in Plainfield, Cody is an experienced bartender with years of front and back of house experience. His first job was with Nobel Feast Catering out of Charlemont, MA. He managed restaurants and bars from a young age, from small venues in Shelburne Falls to the Summit Lodge on Mount Snow. He’s been a brewer at the small Beer Naked Brewery in Marlboro, VT, helping make maple stouts while working the bar and slinging pizza. He’s worked at Homestead in Northampton since the space was still Seven Strong (fun fact: he was originally hired to be the kitchen manager, but was quickly moved to the bar, which he now manages.) A bit of a whiskey drinker himself, he loves his Bourbon Sours, but has been favoring Mezcal sours with fresh egg whites, a must in any true sour.

Galaxy grew out of Chef Casey’s dream of opening his own restaurant. After many years of working for others, Casey finally realized that dream by opening the once beloved Apollo Grill, which was opened its doors in 2001 and closed them last year. Casey is now focused on Galaxy, a restaurant born of the same dreams as the Apollo was, to serve its community using fresh ingredients with our own twist. Local heroes at Galaxy: Myco Terra mushrooms, Mapleline dairy, Diemand eggs, Mountain View and Pepin Farm vegetables, herbs and flowers; New City Brewery, Fort Hill, Abandoned Building. The valley is an incredible place filled with people following their passions and Galaxy is jazzed to be part of this scene.
Galaxy’s Competing Bartenders: Audrey Douglass & Phoebe Zax
Audrey Douglass grew up in restaurants, first in Boston but mostly in the Pioneer Valley. She made quick work of hosting and bussing and soon started waiting tables. Audrey eventually managed the Apollo Grill restaurant for the last 2 years of its operation. Currently, she can be found behind the bar or serving tables as the leader at the Galaxy Restaurant in Easthampton. She loves making tequila cocktails almost as much as she loves drinking them!
Phoebe Zax has been working in restaurants across Massachusetts since she was a teenager. For the past seven years, she’s worked behind the bar in various restaurants around the Pioneer Valley. Starting four years ago she’s been a bartender at Galaxy. When she’s not slinging drinks she is either running Easthampton’s only comic shop, Comics N’More, or snuggling her two dogs at home. She enjoys coming up with infusions and using a variety of ingredients in her cocktail creations.
Gigantic a neighborhood cocktail bar in the heart of Easthampton’s Cultural District that opened at the beginning of this year. Libations at Gigantic are unique and challenge the status quo, with interesting syrups and tinctures to make guests a fine cocktail while sitting between paintings of Elvis and Burt Reynolds. Cocktails at Gigantic have been regionally and nationally recognized, such as the fan favorite – the Harvard Sour. In addition to the cocktail menu, Gigantic features a great collection of Scotch, Amaro, and local rotating beers on draft. Gigantic is proud to support their lead-female bartender Joce at this year’s Farm to Cocktail competition, and look forward to shaking and stirring beside the finest mixologists in Western Mass!
Joce is a Pioneer Valley native with more than 10 years of service industry experience. A lover of her Easthampton community, Joce enjoys chatting with guests about the happenings in town and making people feel at home when visiting Gigantic.
