Brown Bag

Our Brown Bag team brings a monthly bag of nutritious food to elders in 60 rural and urban communities throughout western Mass.

Brown Bag participants must meet income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  If you need food assistance and think you might qualify, please call the Brown Bag staff at 800 247-9632 or send email.

Brown Bag volunteers help unload the truck and pack the bags with groceries.  You can be a Brown Bag volunteer by helping for only a few hours a month.  Call us or send email.

The Fresh Food Project

The Fresh Food Project rescues fresh, prepared and perishable food and gets it to our partner agencies quickly.

During the growing season, volunteer gleaners help us capture large amounts of produce from local farms.  Other food comes to the Fresh Food Project from supermarkets, bakeries,  and food manufacturers and retailers.

Food donors: Donors are essential to the Fresh Food Project.  If you're throwing out good food, we can help you cut your dumpster costs!

The federal Good Samaritan Act protects those who donate food from liability.  For more information about donating food, call 413 247-9738.

Nutrition Education

Our Nutrition Education staff offers tools for healthy living for low-income people.  Workshop topics include strategies for shopping, cooking, and food storage with limited food dollars.  Workshops are available for low-income seniors and other adults.

Full Plate Special is a nutrition education program for children that features stories and puppetry by our very own "Chef Bill R. D."

If you are interested in having a nutrition workshop at your agency, send email or call 413 247-9738.
