Project description:
A
new Food Bank project to serve as a model for community-based change for
sustainable solutions to the problems of hunger and unequal access to
nutritious foods in the United
States. Partners including social service
agencies, farmers, students, communities of faith, people personally affected
by food security, government officials, statewide anti-hunger agencies, and
concerned citizens have come together to create and implement plans that will
reduce hunger by 10% in four years while increasing food security for everyone
in two Massachusetts communities: Mason Square, Springfield, our urban pilot
community, and the seven towns of northern Berkshire County, our rural
community.
Internship Overview:
We are seeking candidates with availability to do
administrative and coordinative work for the
program. We are also seeking candidates to work at
the farmer’s market on Saturday or to pick fruit at
a fruit farm in Ware.
Duties:
Computer
tasks, organizing and phone calls; labor oriented projects such as unloading
trucks and clean up; managing EBT (food stamps) machine at the Farmers’ market;
marketing and communications projects
Necessary Skills:
We
are considering candidates with the following skills: Microsoft Office,
database management, events coordination and management, marketing and
communications, advertising, making phone calls and manual labor tasks
About The Food Bank:
Founded in 1982, The Food Bank of Western
Massachusetts is a 501(c)(3) organization and a member of America’s Second Harvest, a
national network of 200 regional food banks.We are a central clearing house of food from the food industry,
accepting donated food by the truckload and distributing it to 396 hundred
smaller, independent programs serving people in need.The mission of The Food Bank is to work with
our community to reduce hunger and increase food security in the four counties
of western Massachusetts.
