Weekly Time Commitment: Flexible according to
student's availability and credit needs
Duration: Fall, Spring, Winter, or Summer semester
Supervision: Report to the Development &
Communications Manager
Location: Most of the work will take place in The Food
Bank’s Hatfield, MA office. Student will be encouraged to
participate in meetings in the four western Massachusetts
counties when applicable. Transportation support/stipends are
available.
Description:
Interns will work
in the department responsible for fundraising, marketing,
communications and special events for The Food Bank.
Tasks Include:
¨
Assist in providing support with media relations, including
maintenance of media database, pitching, performing media
research/identifying potential press prospects, proofreading
selected press materials, and preparing press packets.
¨
Track, document, and archive coverage of The Food Bank, and
issues of concern to hunger related issues, in the general
media, trade press and on the Web.
¨
Assist in creating and maintaining a calendar of potential
speaking opportunities (conferences, meetings, etc.) for staff
and board spokespeople, and track actual Food Bank speaking
engagements.
¨
Work with programs and initiatives to elevate their visibility
through media outreach and collateral development.
Qualifications:
¨
Good verbal communication skills, both face-to-face and by
telephone
¨
Accurate data entry and word processing skills
¨
Ability to work effectively and respectfully within diverse
communities
¨
Attention to detail
¨
Access to a car
Preferences:
¨
Strong computer skills, especially in desktop publishing/page
layout and design, and web site maintenance/design.
¨
Conversant in Spanish
Benefits:
The Food Bank is unable to offer a stipend for this
internship. We offer reimbursement for mileage for field work.
This internship will increase student's awareness of hunger
issues through involvement with The Food Bank; provide
communications experience working with the media and business
community; provide experience in a non-profit environment.
Academic credit can be arranged.
