Among all client households served by The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, 71% are food insecure, according to the U.S. government’s official food security scale.
Today, managers from Stop & Shop stores across the region arrived at The Food Bank of Western Mass. To donate 900 gift cards, worth a total of $10,800, to allow families in need to purchase turkeys this Thanksgiving. The gift cards, or “flat” turkeys, will allow families to purchase holiday turkeys at any Stop & Shop location. This year, more than 7,000 households will benefit from a Food Bank-provided turkey this year.
The Food Bank was also presented with a donation of $13,404.42 as part of Stop & Shop’s Healthy Ideas Food for Friends campaign. Healthy Ideas Food for Friends is a program designed to provide funds to hunger relief agencies to continue to procure high quality nutritious food.
